Longsword Teams

Adlington Morris Men
A group from Cheshire, they perform a variation of the Helmsley Longsword Dance taught to them by Trevor Stone.

Goathland Plough Stots
One of Yorkshires traditional long sword teams, if not the oldest still dancing their own dance as performed as far back as the early 19th century.

Grenoside Sword Dancers
The Grenoside Sword Dance can be traced back to the 1750s. It is one of the very few ritual dances of England that can truly be called “traditional.”

Handsworth Traditional Sword Dancers
An eight-man longsword side from Handsworth, Sheffield. Their dancecan be traced back to the 1800s.

Highside Longsword
A team from North Yorkshire, formed in 1986, their original aim was to learn and revive a local version of the Kirkby Malzeard Longsword dance.

Ryburn Longsword
Ryburn Longsword are a mixed team based in Ripponden, West Yorkshire.

Southport Sword
Men's Sword & Morris side dancing the North Skelton longsword dance.

Spen Valley Longsword
Formed in October, 1974. Among many other things, Spen participated in the "Whitby Competitive Festival" for 25 consecutive years. Sometimes managing to win it.

Stevenage Sword
The Stevenage Sword Dancers are a Rapper and Longsword dance team based in Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England.

Black Swan Rapper
Exciting, multi-award winning team based in York.

Dorset Buttons
The Men’s Rapper Sword Dance team was formed in 1991 and performs dances that originate from the mining villages of Northumberland.

Durham Rams
Formed in the early 1960's, the Rams practice and perform traditional Rapper and Cotswold Morris dances.

Gaorsach Rapper & Step
Brought together in bizarre circumstances in 2002, they perform rapper dances (traditional and evolved) and clog and step dances from around the world.

High Spen Blue Diamonds
The Blue Diamonds were formed in the Durham pit village of High Spenand have been dancing since 1926.

Hoghton Rapper Sword
A Preston based side who have been dancing rapper since the 1960s.

Mabel Gubbins Rapper
A women's dance team, based in the village of North Moreton, near Oxford.

Newcastle Kingsmen
Originally a student team, the Kingsmen's primary dance style is rapper but they also perform the Grenoside longsword dance and the Royton processional from Lancashire.

Ryknild Rabble
Ryknild Rabble hail from Lichfield in Staffordshire. They dance border morris, rapper, longsword and step clog.

Stone Monkey
Stone Monkey are sword dancers based in the East Midlands. They perform rapper and (increasingly) longsword dances.

Triskele Sword
Originally formed in 2000, specifically to organise DERT 2002, and represent (with Gift Rapper) Sheffield at DERT . The team is mixed gender, and our members dance with several other sides.

Whip The Cat Rapper
A traditional dance team, based in Nottingham, who perform rapper dances to Northumbrian tunes performed on fiddle, flute and whistle.
